The first half of this course reviews concepts from algebra through trig which are essential for success in calculus, making sure the student has the necessary fundamentals. The second half of the course introduces the student to the concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals giving them an overview of calculus and familiarity with the new concepts and methods of this course.

BC calculus requires students to study math with a higher degree of mathematical rigor than most are accustomed to using. In this course, we will study some of the tougher topics of BC calculus, such as epsilon-delta proofs and infinite series, to help students develop more rigorous mathematical abilities. We will also solidify their understanding of any calculus topics they have studied so far.

Both the mathematics and the concepts of Statistics are distinctly different from all other math that high school students encounter. This course helps the student gain confidence with several of the most difficult Statistics topics including summation, probability, distributions and inference.

Pre-Calculus (Analysis) is the most challenging course in the high school math sequence leading up to Calculus. The course is rigorous and demanding, requiring students to draw upon their algebraic and geometric skills at a very high level. This intensive looks at Pre-Calculus in a nutshell and gives students experience working on this highly intense level.

When starting Algebra II, many students have difficulty recalling the material they learned in Algebra I. In Algebra II students also study Trigonometry in earnest for the first time. Both these challenges make Algebra II/Trig a demanding class for many students, especially if their Algebra I experience was not the best. While reviewing the relevant Algebra topics they need to succeed, students in this intensive will be introduced to some of the more challenging topics of Algebra II/Trig.

Many students who were successful in Algebra I find Geometry challenging and even frustrating. Proving theorems, analyzing figures and thinking deductively are often new and difficult skills for Geometry students. In this intensive, we will give students a head start developing these skills in the context of some of the most important Geometry topics.

Algebra I is a critical course for students for two reasons. First, it is the foundation of all future high school math classes. A poor start in Algebra can lead to many struggles in later coursework. Second, Algebra I marks the difficult transition from concrete to abstract reasoning that many students find challenging. For both these reasons, gaining a head start on Algebra I can mean a more successful and positive experience in the class and in high school math in general.

In this intensive students will be trained to begin to “think like a physicist.” Starting with the necessary mathematical foundation, they will learn how to apply that math to the physical world in the way that physicists do. This new way of thinking, more than anything else, helps students to succeed in Physics. While learning this, students will gain a head start on the topics of motion, vectors, forces, and energy.

_AP Physics C requires students to utilize calculus that they either are just learning (derivatives) or have not learned (integrals, vector calculus). Most students cite these calculus based problems as the most difficult physics questions. _This intensive gives students the needed practice in using calculus to solve physics problems so that they feel secure enough with the math to be able to succeed with the physics. Topics covered include: motion, work and energy, moment of inertia and electrostatics.

Honors chemistry is a notoriously difficult class that many Sophomores or Juniors choose to take. The combination of mathematical rigor, intensive memorization and the need to visualize intangibles make Chemistry a challenging class for many. Lab write-ups can also be long and hard for students. This intensive helps students master significant figures, dimensional analysis, chemical nomenclature, atomic structure and mole conversions. Students also gain familiarity with chemical reactions, stoichiometry, the periodic table and chemical bonding.

AP chemistry contains a combination of mathematical rigor, intensive memorization and the need to visualize intangibles that make AP Chemistry a challenging class for many. Lab write-ups can also be long and hard for students. This intensive helps students master skills covered by the AP exam.

This summer intensive consists of six sessions which will help students to build a fundamental knowledge of AP Biology. We’ll examine the major concepts including cell biology, genetics, evolution and much more. Students will not only navigate the more difficult concepts, but also learn ways to organize and categorize the the new material.

In this intensive students will be guided through Code Academy, a wonderful starting point that teaches Python and other programming languages and skills in a fun, interactive way. It introduces key concepts such as objects, variables, data types, functions, and code organization with examples and exercises designed for the beginning student

Reading speed and comprehension have a direct impact on academic performance and especially standardized test results. This course will benefit both students who want to sharpen skills and those who struggle with reading comprehension and speed. The summer before taking the SAT or ACT is an ideal time to hone the skills of reading faster, more accurately, and with greater comprehension.

In this summer intensive, students looking for a jump-start on five paragraph essay writing and analysis skills will brush up on grammar, increase vocabulary, learn to write effective paragraphs with strong topic sentences and good transitions.

AP US History often begins during the summer with a daunting packet of reading and assingments. In this intensive, support for completing the packet is available.

Up Your Game for College Math!! This intensive is designed to do two things: 1) take students from where they left off (in calculus or statistics) and introduce them to some of the main concepts they will need to tackle in college, and 2) help students transition to the challenges of college math courses: faster pace, larger classes, more problem sets, fewer and harder exams, more proofs, less access to the professor. Some strategies covered include better notetaking in math, how to preview/review lecture material, how to prep for proofs on exams, what online help is available, how to study smarter for maximum understanding.

The SAT and ACT tests require students to perform specific language and mathematical skills under timed, high-pressure conditions which many students may find challenging. In this intensive students will be guided through math, reading comprehension, and writing topics covered on the SAT or ACT. As well important test-taking skills such as pacing and planning will be highlighted. This course helps the student gain the skills and familiarity to tackle these tests with confidence.

Five 45 minute skype calls and one 90 minute finishing call, plus unlimited essay review/editing time included. ($1075 for 650 word Common App Essay or UC Application Essays or $1200 for Common App or UC Essay plus 2 supplementary individualized college application essays)

Students will enter a guided process of developing polished and focused essays by choosing an angle on an appropriate topic or theme, locating evidence, and editing their writing. Discussions will focus on the expression of their particular voice within the required word counts.
